BJP Leader T Raja Singh Quits Party, Protests Against N Ramchander Rao’s Appointment as Telangana BJP Chief
In a dramatic turn of events, Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), citing dissatisfaction with the party’s decision to appoint N Ramchander Rao as the new Telangana BJP president. The three-time MLA, known for his controversial remarks and strong Hindutva stance, expressed his discontent in a resignation letter addressed to Union Minister and outgoing state BJP chief G Kishan Reddy.
Why Did T Raja Singh Resign from BJP?
Raja Singh’s resignation comes after reports confirmed that the BJP’s central leadership had finalized Rao’s name for the state president’s post. In his letter, Singh claimed that the decision was a “shock and disappointment” not only to him but also to lakhs of BJP workers and supporters.
He argued that the party missed an opportunity to appoint a more “credible and connected” leader who could lead the BJP to victory in the upcoming elections. Singh also alleged that “individuals with personal interests” influenced the central leadership, sidelining grassroots workers and loyalists.

Who is N Ramchander Rao, the New Telangana BJP Chief?
N Ramchander Rao, a 66-year-old lawyer and seasoned BJP leader, has been associated with the party for over four decades. His political journey began with the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 1977. Over the years, he held key positions in the BJP, including state general secretary and spokesperson.
Rao, a Brahmin leader, is seen as a unifying figure within the Telangana BJP, which has faced internal factionalism. His legal background and long-standing commitment to the party played a crucial role in his selection. However, his appointment surprised many, as former BRS leader Eatala Rajender and other senior leaders were also in contention.
Raja Singh’s Last-Minute Nomination & Resignation
In a last-ditch effort to challenge Rao’s appointment, Raja Singh attempted to file his nomination for the state president’s post. However, he failed to secure the required support from at least 10 councillors, and his nomination was rejected as it was submitted after the deadline.
Frustrated by the rejection, Singh announced his resignation, stating:
“I have taken personal risks for the party, even facing threats from terrorists. But the BJP has leaders who do not want the party to come to power in Telangana.”
Despite quitting the BJP, Singh affirmed his commitment to Hindutva ideology and vowed to continue serving the people of Goshamahal.
A History of Controversies
T Raja Singh is no stranger to controversies. Often dubbed “Hindu Hriday Samrat” by his supporters, he has faced multiple suspensions from the BJP for his inflammatory speeches. In 2022, he was suspended for alleged derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed but was reinstated ahead of the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections, where he won his seat for the third consecutive time.
What’s Next for BJP in Telangana?
With Singh’s exit, the BJP faces a crucial challenge in maintaining unity in Telangana. While Rao’s appointment aims to consolidate the party’s position, dissent from leaders like Singh could signal deeper rifts. The BJP, which has been striving to expand its footprint in Telangana, must now navigate internal conflicts while preparing for future electoral battles.
T Raja Singh’s resignation marks a significant setback for the BJP in Telangana, exposing underlying tensions within the party. As N Ramchander Rao takes charge, the BJP’s ability to reconcile differences and strengthen its base will determine its success in the state’s evolving political landscape.
