Surrey, British Columbia – In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the entertainment and security landscapes, nine shots were reportedly fired at popular comedian Kapil Sharma’s newly opened eatery,
Kap’s Cafe, in Surrey, Canada, on Wednesday night. Khalistani terrorist Harjeet Singh Laddi has swiftly claimed responsibility for the attack, though Surrey police have confirmed no injuries were sustained in the incident.
Kap’s Cafe, located in British Columbia, marks Sharma’s inaugural venture into the restaurant business and is reportedly managed by his wife, Ginni Chatrath.
A video purportedly showing the shooting has since gone viral on social media, adding to the intensity of the situation.
While WION cannot independently verify the authenticity of the video, the incident has brought Harjeet Singh Laddi, an alleged operative of the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), back into the spotlight.
Laddi is already on India’s National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) most wanted terrorist list.
Who is Harjeet Singh Laddi?
Harjeet Singh Laddi is identified as a prominent foreign-based operative of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a pro-Khalistan militant organization that has been proscribed in India.
He is believed to be residing in Germany and is considered a pivotal figure in orchestrating BKI’s global activities.
Laddi faces grave accusations of masterminding numerous violent attacks within Punjab, including targeted assaults on right-wing leaders and, notably, the assassination of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Prabhakar in April 2024.
His alleged modus operandi includes recruiting local operatives, facilitating the procurement of arms and ammunition, and providing crucial logistical and financial backing for terror activities.
According to reports, Laddi cited certain remarks allegedly made by comedian Kapil Sharma as the motive behind the shooting at Kap’s Cafe. The exact nature of these remarks, however, has not yet been disclosed.

Transnational Network and High-Priority Fugitive Status
Operating under the alleged Pakistan-based leadership of BKI chief Wadhawa Singh Babbar, Laddi is believed to be an integral part of a larger transnational conspiracy aimed at destabilizing Punjab through terror activities. Despite being based overseas, he reportedly maintains direct control over BKI operatives within India.
Indian authorities, spearheaded by the NIA, have declared Harjeet Singh Laddi a high-priority fugitive. A significant reward of Rs 10 lakh has been announced for any information that leads to his arrest, underscoring his importance in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
The Surrey police are currently investigating the incident, and further details are awaited as the investigation unfolds. The attack has raised concerns about the reach of such extremist elements and the safety of public figures and their ventures abroad.
