India Launches Operation Sindhu to Evacuate Nationals from Iran Amid Rising Tensions

In response to escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, the Government of India has initiated “Operation Sindhu” to ensure the safe evacuation of Indian nationals stranded in Iran.
The first phase of the operation successfully evacuated 110 Indian students from northern Iran, who were transported to Armenia before being flown back to New Delhi in a special flight.

First Batch Evacuated: The initial group of 110 Indian students, including 90 from Kashmir, were evacuated from Urmia University of Medical Sciences in northern Iran.

Route Taken: The students traveled by road to Yerevan, Armenia, under the supervision of Indian missions in Iran and Armenia.

Special Flight to Delhi: The evacuees departed from Yerevan at 2:55 PM (local time) on June 18 and are expected to arrive in Delhi by 2 AM on June 19.

The evacuation comes amid rising hostilities between Iran and Israel, with both nations engaging in missile strikes over the past week. The conflict has resulted in hundreds of casualties, prompting India to prioritize the safety of its citizens in the region.
