Heavy Rain, Strong Winds Lash Delhi-NCR After IMD’s Red Alert

Late Saturday night, Delhi-NCR witnessed intense rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, bringing much-needed relief from the sweltering heat. The sudden downpour followed a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), warning of thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and squally winds up to 100 km/h.

According to IMD, “A thunderstorm cell is approaching Delhi and adjoining areas from the west/northwest.” The alert, categorized as ‘Red’, indicates the highest level of caution, advising people to stay indoors and avoid taking shelter under trees or in open areas.

Many areas reported power cuts, waterlogging, and uprooted trees. The minimum temperature recorded in the city was 28.4°C, 1.7°C below average.

Meanwhile, Kerala also experienced heavy rains, damaging homes and crops, and causing widespread power outages as monsoons hit the state early.
