Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the triumphant Indian women’s cricket team at his residence on Wednesday, celebrating their historic ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 victory. “You have done a great job. In India, cricket is not just a sport—it’s an emotion shared by every citizen,” PM Modi said during the interaction.
He recalled how the team faced social media trolling after their initial defeats but bounced back stronger to script history, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at Navi Mumbai.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s consistent encouragement and recalled their earlier meeting with him after the 2017 World Cup, when they had come “without a trophy.”
“This time, we’ve brought the trophy home,” Harmanpreet said proudly.
